Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide has announced the appointment of Chad Dick as the new Chief of The Jasper Police Department effective January 6th, 2025. He will be replacing retiring Chief Nathan Schmitt, who has served in that role since August, 2017. Chad Dick has over 25 years of dedicated service as an Indiana State Trooper and most recently held the role as Lieutenant at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He has a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement operations, community relations, and effective leadership. His past service as a supervisor with the Indiana State Police and as a compliance specialist and law enforcement training staff member at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy has further refined his abilities in strategic planning, personnel management, and training, allowing him to mentor and develop the next generation of law enforcement professionals. He is familiar with the latest advancements in policing strategies and the use of technologies. Understanding the vital role the police chief plays in shaping the department’s culture and policies, he is prepared to lead with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to excellence.
Assistant Chief Aaron Persohn will lead the Jasper Police Department until Chief Dick is sworn into his new role. Assistant Chief Persohn has over nineteen years of law enforcement experience protecting and serving the community.
