Cops and Kids
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #138 consists of officers and civilian personnel from the Jasper, Huntingburg and Ferdinand Police Departments, Dubois County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Officers and The Holland Town Marshal and Birdseye Town Marshal. The FOP lodge combines forces with the Jasper Wal-Mart and the Jasper Moose Family Center to help enrich the Christmas holiday for 60 or more children from the Dubois County area every year.
Children from the Tri-Cap Head Start program are taken to the Jasper Wal-Mart on a date just before Christmas. The children are then paired with their police officer for a day of shopping and fun. The officer and child shop for needed clothing items and toys. After the shopping cart is full, the children are loaded back into the vehicles and a caravan of police cars, with lights shining and sirens wailing, head through town to the Jasper Moose Family Center. The children then have lunch with Santa Claus and their police officer.
Money is raised by the Fraternal Order of Police #138, donations from the Jasper Wal-Mart, Jasper Moose Family Center and the community to make this event possible.
