Planning and Zoning

The Jasper Plan Commission (JPC), an 11-member board, addresses rezoning and subdivision of land requests for the City and its two-mile jurisdiction in addition to maintaining and updating the City's Comprehensive Plan. The Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is a five-member board that addresses variances to the standards laid out in the city's Unified Development Ordinance. The primary types of appeals that can be filed with the BZA include: Nonconforming Situation Ruling; Administrative Appeal Ruling; Special Exception; Development Standard Variance; and Use Variance.

Plat/Plan Review- No charge

Plat - Residential Subdivision

Administrative (Amendments or Vacations): $100.00

Minor: $100.00 + $1.00 for each lot in the proposed subdivision

Primary: $300.00 + $25/acre

Plat - Commercial/Industrial Subdivision

Administrative (Amendments or Vacations): $300.00

Primary: $300.00 + $50/acre

PUD - $300.00 + $25/acre


Special Meeting - $150.00 + legal add., cert. of mail

A Notice of Public Hearing requires a 10 day notice advertised in the Herald (newspaper) prior to the meeting.

Variance - requires a Public Hearing by the Board of Zoning Appeals

Plat - May require a Public Hearing by the Plan Commission

Home Occupation - requires a Public Hearing by the Board of Zoning Appeals

Zoning Map Amendment-Change of Zoning Classification - requires a Public Hearing by the Plan Commission and Common Council
